5 months and changing
What a profound time in a baby’s life. The changes are huge and we were just getting use to her! And then she goes and changes on us!
*laughs*
It is good; it’s hard, but good.
I think last week was the hardest week for me, having both babies (the one that I nanny) in a fussy mood and not sleeping well like previous weeks. They were very unpredictable which through me off and I wasn’t prepared. I’ve had to talk to other Mothers to get some advice and encouragement that it is not something I am doing wrong or not doing but just that babies do really change.
Ramona now has opinions! Yup! Very challenging! Going from sweet little baby that likes to play and laugh and giggle to baby that wants a certain something now or has a fight and throws herself back in frustration because she can’t reach it herself. This is our 5 month old Ramona.
Mind you, there are great moments. When I pick her up from her crib (which I still need to take pictures of her in) she holds onto my neck and rests her head on my shoulders. Awwww, yes, SO precious, can’t get enough of that! She also loves the morning, which I have mentioned before (glad that hasn’t changed at least not yet!) and it’s the best when you go and surprise her in her crib and you are greeted with a HUGE smile, as wide and high as her mouth will stretch! Ooooo I love those moments.
She now hands toys back and forth between her hands and talks to them. She eats (or tried to) everything that is front of her, including Mommy’s oatmeal one morning. She reached for it and before I could notice she had her hand in my bowl, covered with gooey oatmeal. It didn’t make it to her mouth, not this time anyway.
We took that as a signal…she is ready for something more, something gooey, like Rice Cereal!! Yes, we took the plunge and started her last night (mar.11) in fact. It was a hoot! A memory that will last a life time. She loved the spoon and everything on it. She especially liked the bib (check out the video.google.com for more) it was a neat colourful design and plasticy so I think the feel of it was new to her. We had to keep the cereal coming or else she would put her bib in her mouth and gum on that, so eventually she had it all over, so we just took the bib off to get it out of the way. She was already soaked in yummy rice cereal!
I think it was the best thing we could’ve done because the night previous we were up several times in the night, nursing, soothing, giving Tylenol (teething) and last night after cereal and night nurse, she slept almost 12 hours!!! THANK YOU LORD!!! We prayed for it! We just couldn’t do it anymore, not getting sleep and she was a miserable baby when she wasn’t getting the rest and sleep she needed to. So, we love cereal!
The weather is getting really nice here so I look forward to the pool season and teaching Ramona all about water and swimming! It’s gonna be so much fun.
There are some really hard and challenging aspects to motherhood, but mist all that is beautiful sweet serenity with your baby/child. She is from you, apart of you and for you to love and cherish, train and direct. It really is high calling, but an amazing. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I am working on her baby book and putting stories that I hope she asks me about when she is older.
She amazing to watch a baby learn and grow into a little person. What an honour it is to have a baby.
‘Til next month on Motherhood with Kelly,
Mama Martin
